Indians Off to a Solid Start the First Week of the 2012 Season

March 5-9 was a busy week at Gilbert as our boys JV and Varsity teams combined to play every night of the week. The JV boys started the week with a 1-0 win over Swansea in the final minutes on a goal by Zach Kilgore, while the Varsity Boys avenged their season opening loss to Andrew Jackson in 2011 by posting a shutout in a 4-0 season opening win over Andrew Jackson on Tuesday night. The JV squad had a tough outing on Wednesday but played their hearts out for 60 minutes while the varsity squad came back on Thursday with a 6-0 home win over Saluda. Friday night was very exciting as it was the first JV/V doubleheader of the season and it did not disappoint as 7th grader Matt Crews notched his first Gilbert goal to tie the match with PAC with 7 minutes to play then Bruno Torres put away the game winner with under a minute to play to lift our JV Indians to a 2-1 win. In the 7:00 match our Varsity Indians used a goal in each half to work their way to a 2-0 win over a solid PAC squad. The Varsity Indians are 3-0 in the regular season and are ranked 3rd in the week #1 SCsoccer.com/State Newspaper 2A Boys soccer poll.
